Report Child Abuse: 1-855-4LA-KIDS

PROGRAM

Children's Advocacy Center

A safe, child-friendly space where children share their stories once — with a coordinated team supporting them every step of the way.

One place. One story. One team.

Traditionally, children involved in abuse investigations had to repeat their stories many times to many people. At the CAC, we change that. Children are interviewed once by a trained forensic interviewer, while law enforcement, prosecutors, child protection, and medical professionals observe — minimizing trauma and maximizing accuracy.

The Multi-Disciplinary Team

At the heart of every CAC is a coordinated team of professionals working together — so the child tells their story once, and every discipline responds as one.

  1. Law Enforcement

The role of Law Enforcement is grounded in public safety. Officers respond to and investigate criminal allegations of child abuse.

  2. DCFS

The Department of Children and Family Services works to ensure children are safe — through investigation, safety planning, and follow-up to keep children in safe environments.

  3. Family Advocacy

Family and Victim Advocates support child victims and non-offending family members, assessing needs and coordinating resources throughout the healing process.

  4. Forensic Interviewer

A competently trained, neutral professional who conducts developmentally sensitive, legally sound interviews to gather facts about allegations of abuse or exposure to violence.

  5. Therapist

Our network of therapists offers specialized, trauma-focused services so children define their future and are not defined by their past. Onsite therapy is available.

  6. Medical

A team of doctors and Sexual Assault Nurse Examiners (SANE) provide medical exams when necessary. Onsite medical exams are accessible to children.

  7. Prosecutor

Prosecutors investigate alleged crimes alongside law enforcement, file criminal charges or bring evidence before the Grand Jury, and represent the parish on behalf of the DA's office.

One child. One interview. A coordinated team responding together at every step.
